The boring part of working in the darkroom is still more fun than just about anything else.

I suspected my Speed Graphic had a light leak. No leaks here, so I’ve either been handling things carelessely or my other film holder is defective.

At least now I have a photo of my bike.

My daughter got married yesterday. I had planned to take hundreds of photos using several cameras. Turns out that instead I was preoccupied simply enjoying the event. I was determined to get at least one 4x5 shot, though. I didn’t want to get in the “real” photographer’s way so I snapped this one with the Speed Graphic, handheld, and sat back down. It’s a little soft, but Jess looks beautiful and I think it will make a nice print.

Jack with Egg

I’ve been uploading a few images to my new Koken-based site at photos.baty.net. Koken is a very nice photo-centric CMS. It’s self-hosted, but if you can deal with the setup, it gets simpler from there. It comes with a few nice templates (I’m still using the default) and the control panel is easy and fast. I like it.

I’m really starting to like my darkroom.

I’ve moved things around a bit. I’m now using only the Omega and the Focomat so I put them beside each other and moved the paper safe onto a stand between them. I only have one good timer so I also put that between the enlargers and I just swap the plugs when changing from one to the other. There’s now a safelight directly overhead. I should’ve done all this earlier.

Continuing to dial things in.

Leitz Focomat V35 Enlarger

It was only a few weeks ago that I said “I think I’m done with 35mm film.” Now I own a Leitz Focomat V35, which is a 35mm-only enlarger. I’ve never claimed to be consistent.

I’ve only made a few quick prints with it, but so far it’s living up to its reputation as the best 35mm enlarger ever made.

"Use Before: Aug 1977"

I better get on that, then.

Used up a roll of Portra with the dogs. The usual.
